The Plan the Iguala – Its Place in Mexican History at The Catholic University

To celebrate Latin American and Hispanic Heritage Month, the Institute for Latin American and Iberian Studies – ILAIS, recently collaborated with University Archives Curator Maria Mazzenga and Associate Professor of History Julia Young to create a video showcasing the Plan de Iguala, also known as the Plan of The Three Guarantees or Act of Independence.

The plan stated that Mexico, in the final stages of the Mexican War of Independence from Spain, would become a constitutional monarchy. The document from 1822 arrived to the University Archives in 1957.

In this video, you will learn more about the Plan de Iguala, its place in Mexican history, the historical importance of this revolutionary-era document and how the Catholic University of America came to possess an original copy of it.
