Dr. Luis Alberto Ambroggio

Biography:

Dr. Ambroggio is a poet, scholar, and writer of Argentine American descent (Cordoba, Argentina, 1945). He is a Full Member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Española) and serves as a correspondent for the Spanish Royal Academy (Real Academia Española). He interned in the U.S. Congress and subsequently served on the White House Cabinet Committee dedicated to advancing the Hispanic population during the Nixon administration. Likewise, he was also the director of the Ibero-American Academy of Poetry in Washington, DC, a member of the SIADE, of Academy of American Poets, of the Canadian Association of Hispanists (Asociación Canadiense de Hispanistas) and the PEN. Additionally, he held positions at the Pan American Development Foundation and the Embassy of Argentina in Washington, DC.

He earned his doctoral degree in Philosophy in Argentina, and pursued additional doctoral studies in social science at The Catholic University of America, in Washington, DC. Furthermore, he holds an MBA from Virginia Tech, and has delivered recitals and lectures at more than 30 universities, making him one of the most regarded poets within the Hispanic literary community in the United States.

Works:

Among his published works are twenty volumes of poetry, including four bilingual editions, a book delving into the craft of poetry, a collection of short stories, translations, and an essay compilation. Influenced by figures such as Friedrich Nietzsche, César Vallejo, Jorge Luis Borges, and Vicente Aleixandre, Dr. Ambroggio's literary portfolio encompasses books such as “Todos somos Whitman (We are all Whitman)”, “Estados Unidos Hispano (Hispanic United States)”, “Cuentos de viaje para siete cuerdas y otras metafísicas (Travel stories for seven strings and other metaphysics)”, “Poemas de amor y vida (Poems of Loving and Living)”, “El escondite de los plagios (The Hideaway of Plagiarism),” “Caudal del origen,” and many more.

Prominent works include his successful anthologies in Spanish Antología de poetas laureados estadounidenses, where he explores and analyzes the work of poets who held the position of Poetry Consultant to the Library of Congress, and the Antología2020 de Ocho Poetas hispanounidenses, which won the International Latino Best Book Award by showcasing distinguished Hispanic voices in American literature for almost 500 years. Other popular anthologies include Labios de Arena (Lips of sand), Al pie de la Casa Blanca (At the Footsteps of the White House), and De Azul a Rojo (From Blue to Red)

Dr. Ambroggio's poetic works have been translated into various languages, including English, French, Italian, Romanian, Mandarin, Korean, Catalan, Hebrew, Portuguese, Japanese, and Turkish. They are documented in the Archives of Hispanic-American Literature at the U.S. Library of Congress. As a critic and essayist, he has specialized in the poetry of the United States written in Spanish on issues related to bilingualism, identity and critical studies of renowned poets such as Borges, Vallejo, Gabriela Mistral and Dario that have contributed to his appointment as Honorary Member of Ruben Dario Cultural Heritage Institute. Among other awards and honors are included his position as the Chairman of the Delegation of the American Academy of the Spanish Language in Washington, DC; as the Director of the Ibero-American Academy of Poetry; as a State Department Cultural Envoy to Nicaragua and El Salvador; as a Curator of the Smithsonian Institution for literary events; as the Deputy Chairman Founder and Honorary Member of the United Nations of the Letters.
